afvík, n. 1) = afhvarf; hann skyldi eigaa. nökkut (dvs. gjøre en Afstikker) austrtil hafs Didr. 13718. 2) Sted som lig-ger afsides, hvortil man kommer ved atvige af; í helvíti var þá góðra mannastaðr langt i brott ok fjarlægr illramanna píningarstöðum, sem fyrir hvíl-dar sakir, náða ok fráskilnaðar öðrumþeim var sinus kallaðr; en þat er svásem nökkut a., svá sem vér köllumfjörð eðr vík á sjó Stj. 195.
