Det i Ordet liggende bautar kunde man anse for en sammen-trukken Form af bautaðar, jvf vagga(r)-steinn for vaggaðarstein, almagalaussfor almagaðalauss, men det kan maaskeogsaa opfattes som Gen. af baut (f.) iBetydning af Stød, Slag, jvf Folkespr. baut = slag 4 Aasen 44 b49. 698 a46.
