hlífarlauss, adj. 1) ubeskyttet mod Vaa- ben, af hvilke man er udsat for at saares (jvf hlífalauss), især uden Skjold. Ingv. 9 (162 b11); ek læt fallast á saxoddmínn hlífarlauss (= berr Bp. I, 1610)Fm. II, 20524; hann var hlífarlauss ensvá fjölkunnigr, at ekki vápn festi áhonum Fm. VII, 19218 (Fris. 31810). 2) forsvarsløs i Alm.; síðan er vér mistumhöfðingja várs Jude -, þá erom mérhlífarlausir fyrir ágangi B. ok annarravárra úvina Guð. 3719.
