kertisveinn, m. Hofbetjent, hvis Antagelseog Forretning beskrives Hirðskrá 25.47, hvor han regnes blandt handgengnirmenn, men ikke til de egentlige hirð-menn. Hvorfor han kaldtes saa, kan sees af Fm. VI, 442 (se under kerti).Jómsv. 6310; Hákon konungr kvað á(paa sit Dødsleie), at gefa skyldi mörkbrenda hverjum hirðmanni en halfamörk gestum ok kertisveinum Fm. X,14713. At ikke alene Kongerne men og-saa Biskopperne havde sine kertisveina,sees af Dn. IV, 11922. 26313, hvor der tales om at gefa e-m borð á kerti-sveinapall í biskups garði; jvf Heilag.I, 17022 under kerti.
