Kongens Nøgel dvs. det Red-skab, hvormed Kongens Tjener paa hansVegne opbryder, hvad der er lukket, naarman paa given Opfordring ikke vil aabne det; men ogsaa i Alm. om det Red-skab (Øxe), hvormed nogen opbryder hvadhan ikke paa anden Maade kan faaaabnet; bera konungslykil at kistu,húsi, búri Bp. II, 1529; Mork. 266. 14(Fm. VI, 18815. 26); Íllugi spratt þá uppok hafði eina handöxi í hendi, hanngengr at kistunni ok mælti: ek hefiat varðveita konungslykil þann, er atöllum kistum gengr ok lásum, nú munek með þeim upp lúka kistunni, ef þúvill ekki selja mér lykil Fbr. 464.
