kúfungr, m. Søsnegle, Strandsnegle, isærdens Hus, som er kúfótt (Folkespr. kuv-ung Aasen 398 b17, i Bohuslen: kup-unge efter C. Linnæi Vestgöta-Resa s. 169, hvor den saa kaldte Sneglebeskrives); turninn var kringlóttr innanok snúinn upp pöllum (dvs. med Vindel-trappe) sem kúfungr, ok átti þar uppat ganga Þ.Jón. 5015; útan á hanstötrum var, sem ekki væri nema kúf-ungar einir ok skeljar Mag. 2122; sumkreatýr hylst í skeljum, sum í kúf-ungum Heilag. I, 47312; fœrði Yng-varr Agli at skáldskaparlaunum kúf-unga þrjá ok andaregg Eg. 31 (642).
