Aas saa kaldet efter Erke-engelen Mikael, fordi der stod en til hamindviet Kirke, som maa antages at haveværet den ecclesia beati Michaelis deNoki Hamarensis dioeceseos, som om-tales i et Pavebrev af 11te Februar 1254(DN. VI, 29) , og have staaet i den bœr,som nu kaldes Kirkeby og ligger i denøstre Ende af Vangsaasen i Vangs Præste-gjeld paa Hedemarken, medens den der-imod før kaldtes Mikjálsáss; útigarðr íMikjálsás DN.
