nýbreytni, f. nyt Paafund, Nyhed, hvorafman overraskes som af noget, der fore-falder en fremmed, usædvanligt (jvf ný-gerfing, nýgerningr, nýjung, nýlunda,nýmæli, nýnæmi); geymit þér vel til,ef þér verðit við nökkura nýbreytnivarir Fm. I, 71-72; mælti hann tilsínna manna, at þeir skyldi ríða rík-mannliga ok völduliga í borgina okláta sér lítit finnast um alla nýbreytniFm.
