ofvilnan, f. overdreven og ugrundet For- haabning; er þat ok eitt ofmikit manns-ins ofmetnaðarmark at treystast meðofdirfð ok ofvilnan, at hann man eigimisgöra mega, meðr þí at þessi sama of-dirfðar ofvilnan sé fullkomin synd eptirþí, sem hinn heilagi Johannes - gefrórskurð á o. s. v. (1 Joh. 1, 8) Stj. 14416 fg;órvilnon er verst allra synda, því athón tortryggvir miskunn guðs, en of-vilnan þar næst, því at hón tortryggvirréttlæti hans; órvilnon er þat næst athyggjask eigi muno bœtt geta syndirsínar með miskunn guðs, ofvilnan atætla sér himinríki, þó at maðr uni ístórglœpum ok láti eigi af þeim nébœti yfir Homil. 13620-23 jvf 25.
