Hjort (nht. roththier, roth-wild); eitt sinni fann þat (nl. dýr, ervér köllum rábukk) mikinn flokk rauð-dýra ok fylgði þeim víða Barl. 8134;hón - fór - með veiðihundum at veiðasér rauðdýri ok rá Barl. 13723; sá eklítinn flokk rauðdýra fara yfir Rín Klm.39024; eitt rauðdýri, er sveinar várirveiddu í dag Ridd. 183; þat var siðrjarla nær hvert sumar at fara yfir áKatanes ok þar upp á merkr at veiðarauðdýri eða hreina Flat. II, 50828(Icel. s. I, 21118 fg jvf Anm.). I Ordene:björn eigo menn at nýta, hvárt semer viðbjörn eða hvítabjörn, ok rauðdýri,hjört eða hrein synes rauðdýri brugtsom en Fællesbenævnelse, der omfattede hjört og hrein Grág. 435 (Grg. I, 347).
