skjala, v. (að) snakke, prate (jvf skvala,hjala); sparði hann ekki at skjala martaf sér um alla hluti Fld. III, 2847; jafn-feigr þykkjumst ek sem áðr, þótt þúskjalir slíkt Grett. 898; skjala í hvernheim (= i Syd og i Nord) dvs. fare med al Slags løst Snak, Fld. III, 2738;vér verðum at tala, meðan ungmennitskjalar (skjallar Mork. 9019) Flat. III,37418. Paa dette Sted synes Verbet athave samme Betydning som paa de forananførte. I anden Betydning (nl. svigte,flygte, slaa feil) synes derimod skjala atforekomme, naar det heder: ef ungmennitskjalar ok vill eigi biða, þá rennumeigi lengra en hér til bekksins; en efmeir skjalar ungmennit -, þá rennumeigi lengra en hér til haugsins Fris.23611 (Hkr. 60420) jvf Fm.
