skuldlauss, adj. 1) fri for enhver paahvi- lende Forpligtelse eller Afgift; sá maðr,er konungr gefr frelsi, hann skal eigigera frelsisöl sítt, ok sá annarr, erfyrr er frelsi gefit, en hann hafi 3nætr hinar helgu ok fœddr upp síðanskuldlauss Gul. 6111 jvf 2; er þat líkast,at ek hætta á (nl. at ná hellinum) okhafa ek fé skuldlaust slíkt, er fæstÞorskf. 508; Gul. 719 modsættes det skuldarmaðr: jafndýrr skal hann (nl.skuldarmaðr) þá at rétti, sem hann væriskuldlauss; jvf Adv. skuldlaust dvs. udenat staa i Gjæld: sá maðr, er á 10 aura(nl. sex alna aura) fyrir útan föt sínhversdagsbúning skuldlaust, sá skal -Grág. II, 2233. 2) ufornøden, som man ikke behøver eller er pligtig at gjøre; erþér skuldlaust at velja mér hæðiyrðisaklausum manni Nj. 121 (1854).
