straumbrot, n. 1) voldsom Strømning; féllein undarliga mikil á með hinu stríð-asta straumbroti ok forsfalli hér okhvar yfir gljúfrum árinnar Heilag. II,4351. 2) fig. Handlingen at brjótastraum fyrir e-u (se under straumr);sýnist oss einsætt, herra, sögðu þeir,at þér kallit Sveinka aptr í land okunnit honum straumbrots fyrir, þvíathann mun sízt harðfengi til skorta atreka íllþýði af höndum ok eyða vík-ingum Fm. VII, 2715.
