svarf, n. 1) Filspaan; Velent ferr nú tilsmiðja ok tekr eina þél ok þélar þettasverð alt í sundr í svarf eitt Didr. 794. 2) Tummel, hvorved der sker Omvælt-ning, fremkommer Uorden, vendes op og ned paa Tingene (= rugl, rupl). Alex.4021; sítt ráð tekr hverr, er í svörfinferr Fm. IV, 1477 (jvf svarfa Fm. XI,977); þat er víkinga háttr at afla fjármeð ránum eðr svörfum Flat. I, 4128.
