Undergraver, som borttagerhvad der ligger under noget (lat. sup-plantator); hann hélt um síns brœðr ilok rist svá sem viljandi draga sínnbróður aptr ok hindra hann af fram-burðinum, var hans nafn fyrir þannskyld kallat Jacob svá sem undirgrefillStj. 16012; Jacobus þýðist undirgrefilleða rótsetjari, ok hefir hann af því þatnafn, at í kenningum sínum gróf hannsyndir ok annmarka ór brjósti mannaok hjörtum Post. 7385; Homil. 1722.
