væta, f. 1) Væde, Fugtighed; loptit -þyknar af þeim vætum - sem uppleggr - of öllu saman jörðunni okvatninu Stj. 1714; ef vatni má eigi ná,þá skal skíra í hvers konar vætu, erná má, en ef engri nær vætu, þá skalrækja í lófa sér Gul. 2114; ausa á mannsaur eðr vætu Jb. 101. 2) vaadt Veir,Regnveir; væta var á um morguninn,síðan þingit var sett Flat. II, 1904;veðr görði hvasst, ok væta mikil okþoka Eg. 27 (565); væta var úti umdaginn Grett. 10224.
