varnarmaðr, m. 1) Person, Mand der op- træder som Forsvarer af noget; bjóðumstvér nú til at gerast varnarmenn ríkisþessa Flat. II, 12113; vil ek at Einarr- sé varnarmaðr fyrir öllum hlutumstaðarins Flat. III, 44528; formenninirlétta þó eigi af at gefa þess háttarmönnum hirtingar, ok gera þá optvarnarmenn réttlætis er áðr ero mót-stöðumenn sanninda Post. 330. 2) Per- son der optræder til Forsvar i en Sag (jvf varnaraðili); ef hefi þá jörð selda,ok em ek eigi varnarmaðr át at verjaþá jörð, þat er þó óðal mítt Gul. 2672.
