vera, f. 1) Væren, Ophold paa et Sted;ósnotr maðr þikkist alt vita, ef hann ásér í vá veru Hm. 25; seg mér, hversumarga vetr er þú berr nú á baki, ok íhverjum staðum þín vera er Barl. 794. 2) Stilling, Tilstand; eptir þetta skauthann í hug honum snarpleik ok vesöldsínnar veru Barl. 19622. 3) Hvile, Ro; slíkt er válaðs vera Hm. 10; heima-menn stukku ór eldhúsinu - ok höfðuhvárki á því kveldi ljós né steina okenga þá hluti, at þeir hefði neina veruaf eldinum Eb. 54 (10023); þar var görlaug til þess, ef nekkverr vildi sœkjavero þangat Heilag. II, 21611; himinnok jörð mun um líða svá sem mynd okfigúra at veru ok undirstöðu Post. 62432.
